July 1-3, to celebrate New London's lighthouse heritage, we hosted a Region-wide Lighthouse Weekend of exhibitions, tours and events. We loved it!
The lighthouse weekend & our new lighthouse exhibition were made possible by a generous grant from the Connecticut Humanities Council*. Photos, below, follow the fun from before it began and on through Sentinels on the Sound weekend.

Broadway World Announces Cake Winners
* One of the largest humanities councils in the
nation, the Connecticut Humanities Council (CHC)
nurtures thoughtful exploration of history and literature along with the cultural benefits of both.CHC's reading programs benefit Connecticut citizens of all ages by opening up the world of books to children, encouraging reading as a family activity and engaging adults in thought provoking book discussions.
CHC's new $1.7 million Heritage Revitalization Initiative seeks to stabilize Connecticut's heritage organizations and position them for success while bringing the state's past directly to the public through an online encyclopedia of Connecticut history, the infusion of Connecticut history topics in the social studies curriculum and the creation of new media materials on our past. This year, CHC will provide more than $3 million in cultural programming and enrich the lives of residents and visitors statewide.

The Lighthouse Kids Sea Shanty Chorus opens the activities for Sentinels on the Sound on Friday, July 1, at noon.
There are three new exhibitions at the museum: Sentinels on the Sound - the lighthouses of Southeastern Long Island Sound; lighthouses from the Frank McGuire Library collection; and a watercolor exhibition by Pat Kelbaugh (below).
Studio 33 brought in artist Bob Hauschild on Friday night.

We paid tribute to Louise Pittaway, a friend of lighthouses.
The cakes were eaten! Everyone voted for winners in four categories.
The Cake Lady won in 3 of 4 categories for Ledge Light swimming in a cupcake sea.
Chaplin's won in the category of Best Taste for their jewel-like Morgan Point Light, Noank.
We were aided mightily by the Sea Scouts, who helped with the boats on Saturday & Sunday.

Project Oceanology ran three full trips, which left from the Custom Pier, to bring visitors to Ledge Light & the new Information Center.

Lighthouse expert Jeremy D'Entremont was Saturday's Symposium's Keynote speaker.
The US Coast Guard provided several speakers to teach about Aids to Navigation.

Inclement weather finally caused our last tours to be canceled.
Sentinels ended Sunday afternoon with a concert of authentic sea music by John Roberts.
