Classes & Workshops Education
The Custom House Maritime Museum offers a variety of new classes & workshops for youth and adults.

Special tours and workshops are available for students groups, from grade school through college level. Call Susan at 860-447-2501 to plan your visit.

NLMS will continue its partnership with New London Public Schools for the 12th year for the 2021-22 school year.

Over the course of the entire school year, New London Maritime Society provides trips to local history sites for all 300 of New London's third grade students. Across 2018-19, students visited the Nathan Hale Schoolhouse, the Custom House Maritime Museum, Hempsted Houses, the Shaw Mansion - NL County Historical Society, the New London waterfront, and Fort Turmbull museum and fort! Students visit the sites two classrooms at a time, so to bring the full class of 300 students to a site requires six trips!

Christina Corcoran is the educator in charge of this program, It is a continuation of one developed by Jody Barthel when she was the Gifted & Talented teacher for the NL schools (particularly in 2010-13, when the program, Lighthouse Kids, was also a partnership with NLMS).

NLMS provides this program to the schools free of charge. It is funded through grants and private donors.

We look forward to continuing with this Local History program in 2021-22.
